News Pimps: An Ex-Patriot’s Perspective

Obama-Emblem-Flag1

Full disclosure – I am in part at least an outsider. That is, I have been living outside the Continental US, for over twelve years. With the exception of a brief lay-over in Miami airport, en-route to a business engagement, I haven’t even visited the place. In some ways it helps me see the country differently. I haven’t drank the same kool-aid every day from the same group of media dispensers. It is correct if you assume I have watched and read other media outlets, knowing as an American by birth, that may be an eternal sin. Yes I have watched RT (Russia Today), I have read the Daily Mail from London, The El Mundo Newspaper and the ABC Newspaper from Madrid, I have even read articles from Iran Media Focus website and from the European Economist website. While I am what could be called a news whore, I love getting my fix from different pimps.

I must also admit to seeing one glaring similarity in most of the reports I have read, and from many of the average and somewhat richer types of people I have had interesting conversations with regarding the current world situation, or crisis, depending upon your outlook. One commonality becomes strikingly apparent, many, don’t like the US Government very much – actually at all.  They like Americans in general, just not their government.  The problem is, that entity represents us.

Since Franklin D. Roosevelt and especially since the close of World War II, our nation as a whole has had one fate. Our Nation, as a whole was, following the War the world’s pre-eminent power. Then following the cold war and the fall of the Soviet Union, we again were regarded as the “Only” super power.

We were then and are now arrogant in our power. Our fate then is self-evident, it can only be a downfall from that lofty perch. There is only one way from the top, that is down. The downward spiral was only waiting for one thing, a leader whose arrogance in power matched the arrogance of our Government as perceived by the world.

As I informed the reader at the start of this article, I obtain my news mostly from sources outside the fountain of kool-aid dispensed by the US media. According to those sources the Saudi Government is considering cutting diplomatic ties with the US. This is due to Obama’s failure to tow their line in regards to smashing the Bashir Al Asad regime in Syria and attempting to form closer ties with Iran, both of whom they consider as sworn enemies. The European Union is also beginning to suggest closer trading ties and an easing of the sanctions on Iran, whether or not the US Government agrees. Thirdly, we have been caught spying and listening to the personal phone calls of at least 35 of the world’s leaders, many of whom, at least to their face, were told they were our allies.

Nearly everyone reading this article has had a someone they considered a friend betray them. What else would you call it, if someone you trusted tapped your phone or followed you around wherever you went. Or, as in the case of one South American leader, caused an international incident by forcing the plane to land to perhaps be searched. The US Government, is without doubt, excelling in arrogance.

I recently heard a great line by an author unknown to myself, “Only a fool confuses fate with destiny, fate is what we are born with, destiny is what we choose to make of what we are born with.” In my humble opinion, the people who are the citizens of the several Sovereign States, which make up what is referred to today as The United States are some of the world’s greatest people. If we use it, as it was originally constructed, we have the world’s greatest form of government. The Declaration of Independence contains the words, the people have the right to alter, abolish, or throw off any Government which is not serving their needs. The constitution in Article V contains the means, purposely put there, to alter, as the people see fit, the manner in which the government operates. What we decided to do with, what we have been bequeathed by our forefathers, will make all the difference to our destiny. What will you decide?
